A Little Night Drawing

Feeling the need for literal and figurative relief from all the figurative and literal noise, I’ve turned to creating quiet, mixed-media night landscapes. Some are places that exist, but all are more memory-filtered dreamscapes than real.

Recent studies show that one third of all humanity cannot see the starry sky at night at all.  Generations of human beings have come and gone from our planet without seeing, knowing, or feeling the profound and humbling sight of the Milky Way.  Our disconnect from the natural world is as negatively impactful as our hectic paces, twisted public spheres and contaminated ecosystems are. We’re losing our night skies, and tragically that fact is lost in all the visual and literal noise. With this work I hope to create a little bit of space within which maybe we can breathe a little.

Mixed media including ink, paint pens, pastel, watercolor, acrylic and sharpie on Canson colored paper.
